How does UV light clean?

PhoneSoap Charger uses UV light to sanitize and clean your cell phone. How does it work?

PhoneSoap Charger uses UV light to sanitize and clean your cell phone. How does it work?

There are three UV light wavelength categories: UV-A, UV-B and UV-C. The UV-C wavelength is the germicidal wavelength. UV-C utilizes short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation (shorter than UV-B and UV-A which are NOT germicidal) that is harmful to microorganisms. Let's find out how!

Watch the Discovery Channel test PhoneSoap Charger and the effectiveness of its UV lights.
UV-C light deadly to microorganisms

UV-C light deadly to microorganisms

The UV-C lamps in the PhoneSoap products produce a very specific wavelength of light which encompass your mobile device, and passes through the cell walls of bacteria and virus to impair their DNA. Once the DNA is compromised, the cells die and can no longer cause infections or diseases.

UV-C light that causes this germicidal effect is rare on Earth as our atmosphere blocks it. This light is harmful for our eyes, hence why it must be done within PhoneSoap's controlled environment. The best part, it kills "SuperBugs" that have developed resistance to the chemicals and antibiotics and has a deadly effect on microorganisms such as pathogens, viruses, bacteria and others.

* You will never see the UV light that is killing all those germs, an external indicator on the PhoneSoap Charger will let you know when your device is being sanitized.
History of UV and Sanitization

History of UV and Sanitization

A brief look at history shows that UV-C sanitizing has been an accepted practice since the mid-20th century. In fact, the 1903 Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded to Niels Finsen for his use of UV against tuberculosis. It has been used primarily in medical sanitation and sterile work facilities, which means it's perfect for sanitizing mobile devices, which are especially good at harboring and growing bacteria.

Your phone's warmth allows bacteria to stay alive and reproduce. UV-C light penetrates the cell and disrupts the DNA, killing the pathogen. Equally important, our UV-C light does not get hot, so while it is extremely effective at killing germs, it will not hurt your phone.

Is UV light safe for my phone and case?

PhoneSoap Charger's UV light is completely safe for any product you put inside

PhoneSoap Charger's UV light is completely safe for any product you put inside

PhoneSoap Charger uses UV-C light to sanitize and clean your cell phone, or whatever you choose to put inside. The question is, does this damage your electronics?

Its UV light is completely safe for your gadgets. UV light can potentially cause damage with continuous, prolonged exposure to plastic. However, it would take many continuous hours of exposure to have this effect. When you close the top of PhoneSoap Charger, the UV lights will turn on for 4 minutes and automatically shut off when done. This is more than enough time to completely sanitize your phone and kill all the germs, but it is never enough time to damage your gadgets. You can feel confident your phone is safe inside, but the germs are not!

How dirty is a cell phone?

Our mobile devices are filthy and it's not hard to see why.

Let’s face it, we are always touching dirty things. The problem is, we are also always touching our phones or tablets, transferring that bacteria to our devices! We wash our hands, but never clean our mobile devices! Have you ever used your phone in the bathroom? (Don't worry, we all have.) Then it shouldn't surprise you that 1 in 6 cell phones have fecal matter on them!
Dirtier than you think!

Dirtier than you think!

Have you even used a paper towel to open the door of a public restroom? Or tried to squeeze out without touching the handle after someone else opens the door? Do you use your foot to flush the toilet? Of course, because those things are loaded with germs!

Did you know that your mobile phone has 18x more harmful bacteria than that handle in a public restroom we all try to avoid? If you have ever used your phone after leaving the bathroom, you made them dirtier than you did in the bathroom.

    Breeding ground for bacteria

    Breeding ground for bacteria

Our devices don't just collect the bacteria from all of the grossness we touch, they BREED bacteria! Our phones are always warm from the battery and we store them in tight, dark spaces like pockets and purses. Your phone is where germs go to party.
    Be healthier

    Be healthier

It's true, some bacteria is good to keep your immune system active, but in the same way that a little sun is good for the skin, too much of it can cause serious problems!

We are in contact with small amounts of bacteria all day, but our phones are growing them out of control, potentially overwhelming our ability to fight them off! Not only are they overloaded with germs, they are harboring bacteria that we should not be in contact with, such as E. coli, MRSA and the flu.

"People are just as likely to get sick from their phones as from handles of the bathroom" - Dr. Jeffery Cain (President of the American Academy of Family Physicians)
