Binkies, Bottles and Bacteria…

WesMicrscopeThis week some of the PhoneSoap crew spent time in the lab testing common baby items like a pacifier, bottle, and toothbrush for bacteria and then tested them after a run through the PhoneSoap XL. Just a warning: the results may shock you (just kidding, we’re not that dramatic).

For those that don’t know how lab testing works, in the famous words of SnoopDog, ‘let’s take a journey.’ First, a long cotton swab is dipped into a sterile solution. This allows the cotton to effectively grab whatever bacteria or germs are lingering on the surface. After that, the cotton swab is spread over a petri dish. The petri dish then sits in an incubator for at least 24 hours so the bacteria can grow. SCIENCE RULES! *cue Bill Nye the Science Guy theme song*

First up to bat we’ve got a pacifier. This particular pacifier is washed about once a day. Be honest, that’s way more than you’ve probably ever washed your child’s pacifier.

The petri dish on the left are the results of a quick swab of the baby items before going into the PhoneSoap XL. The petri dish on the right show the results of the same test AFTER using the PhoneSoap XL!

Next up we’ve tested a baby bottle which is thoroughly washed after each use.

BeforeAfterBottle

A beloved stuffed animal, which as you can tell is rarely washed, if ever. While the fur casts shadows on some parts of the stuffed animal, all exposed parts (and all the nastiest bacteria) are cleaned. After cleaning a few times in a month all areas will have a chance to be completely sanitized.

And finally…a child’s toothbrush.

All those dots and smudges may not mean anything to you, but they’re actually showing a lot of bacteria growth including E.coli and staph, both of which can make us sick. Use the PhoneSoap XL to proactively prevent your babies from passing along or receiving unwanted bacteria. This week some of the PhoneSoap crew spent time in the lab testing common baby items like a pacifier, bottle, and toothbrush for bacteria and then tested them after a run through the PhoneSoap XL.
